New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.** **Job Summary** --------------- Under general supervision of the Mortuary Science Program Coordinator, the faculty member will teach various Mortuary Science evening/day classes and work with area funeral homes to coordinate student clinical education. Position may require faculty member to be available on weekends. **This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.** **This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.** *Please attach resume or curriculum vitae, copy of transcripts, or other documents for consideration.* 1\) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester\-by\-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment. 2\) Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire. **Essential Duties \& Responsibilities \& Knowledge Skills \& Abilities** ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1\. Prepare and teach classes in the Mortuary Science program. 2\. Assist in the supervision and maintenance of embalming laboratory. 3\. Assist in the review and development of program curriculum including textbook selection. 4\. Incorporate a variety of modern teaching technologies including the use of computers and multi\-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments. 5\. Develop, distribute, and adhere to a well\-organized and appropriately detailed course outlines and syllabi. 6\. Assess and maintain records of student performance in a timely manner including submitting grades on time. 7\. Maintain regular office hours and be accessible to students. 8\. Meet college and department deadlines. 9\. Provide professional contributions to the Program, Division, School and College. 10\. Maintain depth of understanding in the funeral service field through professional development and contribute to current knowledge of the discipline. 11\. Assist in program recruitment activities. 12\. Encourage community service and involvement among students. 13\. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and workshops and participate in committee assignments. 14\. Participate in new faculty orientation and training processes. 15\. Develop and implement learning/teaching strategies to enhance the quality and effectiveness of courses. 16\. Participate in program activities to maintain accreditation standards. 17\. Develop and maintain relationships with clinical sites to be used by students when completing their clinical education requirements. 18\. Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures. 19\. Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of the community college. 20\. A breadth of knowledge and experience in the field of Mortuary Science 6\. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. *All Faculty will maintain an on\-site campus presence to encourage in\-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on\-line only courses.* *You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract\-to\-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment.* *Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.* *You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.* **Minimum qualifications** -------------------------- 1\. Graduate from an American Board of Funeral Service Education accredited institution in Mortuary Science or Funeral Service Education. 2\. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. 3\. Current funeral director and embalmer license in the state of Utah or eligible for reciprocation of current state licensure. Must become licensed in Utah within two months after hire. 4\. Two or more years of work experience in funeral service. 5\. Teaching experience **Preferred Qualifications** ---------------------------- 1\. Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university. If not completed by the time of hire, then this degree must be obtained within five years of accepting the position. 2\. Three or more years teaching experience in a higher education institution (adjunct or full\-time) preferred. 3\. Demonstrated strength in teaching community college courses. 4\. Knowledge of curriculum development, assessments, clinical education and effective classroom management. 5\. Knowledge of developing and administering on\-line courses. 6\. Knowledge of the American Board of Funeral Service Education accreditation standards including procedures for program assessment and writing accreditation reports. 7\.
