Job Description
We are currently seeking talented, compassionate Bereavement Counselors to provide clinical bereavement support to members of the communities we serve. We provide this expertrise to hospice patients and their families, but also members of the communities-at-large. Our Chesapeake Life Center is considered a Leader in this type of care.
This position is Full-time, with a schedule of 40-hours between Monday and Friday. General schedule is 8:00am - 4:30pm, with some evening and weekend hours required based on the needs of our community.

Want to join our Team? We are currently looking for dedicated Bereavement Counselors to join our team. As a Bereavement Counselor 1, you will provide clinical bereavement services to hospice patients, family members and members of the community at large. When services are rendered to hospice clients, such care is coordinated and communicated with other members of the interdisciplinary team. Within this position, there is opportunity for career advancement, continuing education and clinical supervision and experience provided.
Main Responsibilities
Provides supportive counseling, grief therapy and/or crisis intervention for adults, children and families in a manner consistent with Maryland licensure and Hospice of the Chesapeake (HOC) standards of care.
Supports careful assessment of bereavement needs of hospice families through engagement in the IDT process, including attendance at selected IDT meetings, creating bereavement plans of care, carrying out interventions as appropriate and documenting accordingly.
Formulates and implements diagnostically appropriate treatment plans of care for clients receiving counseling.
Ensures client sessions are documented and client records are maintained in accordance with Maryland licensure and HOC policy.
Facilitates/co-facilitates grief support groups for clients as needed.
Contributes to the wider community through assisting with program development and provision of both community educational programs and professional Continuing Education.
Your Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling or related field from an accredited educational institution required. LGPC, LGSW-C, LGPAT or equivalent required.
Minimum two years in counseling field required. Prior experience with both telehealth and in person counseling preferred.
Clinical knowledge of the grief processes and interventions required. Experience with grief counseling preferred.
Demonstrated capability in working with diverse client/patient populations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; listening skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team, including providing leadership on special projects by topics as needed.
Basic knowledge and understanding of the grief process and able to provide trauma-informed care.
