Job Description
**About the Role:**
The Bereavement \& Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting patients, families, and the community through compassionate bereavement services and effective volunteer program management. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing bereavement support initiatives that provide emotional and practical assistance to those coping with loss. The coordinator will recruit, train, and manage volunteers, ensuring they are well\-prepared to contribute meaningfully to patient care and community outreach. Collaboration with healthcare professionals and community organizations is essential to create a supportive environment that addresses the diverse needs of bereaved individuals. Ultimately, this role aims to enhance the quality of care and support provided by the organization through dedicated bereavement services and a robust volunteer program.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
* At least two years of experience in bereavement counseling, volunteer coordination, or a related healthcare/social services role.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact sensitively with grieving individuals and diverse populations.
* Proficiency in program development, volunteer management, and record\-keeping.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* Certification in grief counseling or bereavement support (e.g., Certified Grief Counselor).
* Experience working in a hospice, hospital, or community health setting.
* Familiarity with volunteer management software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
* Training in trauma\-informed care or crisis intervention.
* Bilingual abilities or experience working with multicultural communities.
**Responsibilities:**
* Develop and manage comprehensive bereavement support programs, including counseling groups, memorial services, and educational workshops.
* Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers to assist with bereavement services and other organizational needs.
* Serve as a liaison between healthcare staff, volunteers, patients, and families to ensure coordinated and compassionate care.
* Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, bereavement program participation, and related documentation in compliance with organizational policies.
* Evaluate program effectiveness through feedback and data analysis, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Coordinate community outreach efforts to raise awareness about bereavement services and volunteer opportunities.
* Provide direct support and resources to individuals and families experiencing grief, referring to professional counseling services when appropriate.
