Job Description
D\&M Owens Inc. is seeking a compassionate, detail\-oriented, and reliable Burial Services Technician to join our Cemetery Division. This role is responsible for performing grave preparation, interments, site restoration, and maintenance tasks in a respectful, safe, and professional manner. The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors, operating equipment, and interacting with funeral home staff and families with sensitivity and professionalism.
**Key Responsibilities**
Burial \& Interment Services
Prepare gravesites for burials, including excavation, layout, shoring, and site safety. Operate equipment such as mini\-excavators, skid steers, and loaders for grave digging and site restoration. Assist with setting vaults, lowering devices, tents, chairs, and other burial equipment. Perform cremation burials, niche placements, and other interment procedures. Ensure gravesites are prepared according to cemetery standards and in coordination with funeral homes.
Cemetery Grounds \& Site Work
Restore burial sites following services, including backfilling, tamping, sod installation, and final grading. Maintain cemetery grounds, including mowing, trimming, cleaning, and debris removal. Assist with layout and marking of new burial plots. Perform routine maintenance of burial equipment and tools.
Professionalism \& Family Interaction
Interact respectfully with grieving families, funeral directors, and cemetery visitors. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion at all times. Ensure burial services are completed with dignity and adherence to all cemetery policies.
Safety \& Compliance
Follow all OSHA, company, and cemetery safety protocols. Maintain awareness of surroundings, especially when operating equipment near headstones or visitors. Conduct daily equipment inspections and report any issues promptly.
Qualifications
Prior experience in cemetery operations, burial services, or construction preferred. Ability to safely operate equipment such as mini\-excavators, skid steers, or loaders. Strong attention to detail, especially regarding alignment, depth, and site restoration. Ability to work respectfully and professionally around grieving families. Must be able to lift 50\+ lbs., perform physical labor, and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Strong work ethic, dependability, and ability to work independently or with a small team. Valid drivers license required; CDL preferred but not required.
Work Environment
Outdoor work in all weather conditions. Exposure to uneven terrain, heavy equipment, cemetery grounds, and sensitive situations. Quiet, respectful environment requiring professionalism and awareness.
Schedule \& Pay
Full\-time, Monday–Friday. Occasional weekend or after\-hours work depending on funeral schedules. Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Overtime available as needed.
