Cemetery Steward

The Old Scotch Church (Tualatin Plains Presbyterian), near Hillsboro, Oregon, is looking for a part\-time cemetery steward to cover selected duties of a cemetery sexton. The position allows up to ten hours per week and involves primarily remote work with scheduling of meetings and onsite work flexible with one’s schedule. Compensation would be $18\-$20 per hour depending on experience. Responsibilities include: · Field cemetery email and phone inquiries · Sell graves and columbarium niches · Meet with families who need help locating grave sites · Schedule interments, inurnments, and marker settings · Communicate with marker and burial contractors · Flag locations for interments, inurnments, and markers · Collect and sign paperwork for burials when needed · Maintain and update digital and hard copy records · Print reports as needed · Communicate regularly with cemetery elder and commission · Other responsibilities as needed Requirements include: · Ability to work comfortably with individuals experiencing grief · Ability to clearly communicate unfamiliar cemetery terms and procedures · Basic knowledge of digital data entry · Flexible schedule that may require immediate availability The person in this position should be sensitive to the complex dynamics and variety of emotions families have when experiencing loss.
