Job Description
**Job Title: Decedent Care \& Service Coordinator**
**Position Overview**
The Decedent Care \& Service Coordinator is responsible for the respectful handling, transportation, tracking, and preparation of individuals in our care while also supporting funeral service coordination and administrative preparation.
This role is essential to daily mortuary operations and funeral service execution. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail\-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in sensitive environments. This position combines operational responsibility with direct service support, ensuring that every family receives a professional and seamless experience.
**Key Responsibilities**
1\. Decedent Care \& Facility Operations
* Receive, log, and track all decedents entering the facility
* Ensure proper tagging, identification, fingerprinting, weighing, and documentation
* Inventory, document, and safeguard all personal property associated with each decedent
* Maintain accurate chain of custody at all times
* Pull and transport decedents internally for embalming, cremation, dressing, casketing, identification, or viewing
* Coordinate with embalmers, crematory operators, and funeral directors
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of coolers, prep areas, and storage rooms
* Handle all remains with dignity, professionalism, and respect
2\. Transportation \& First\-Call Pickups
* Perform removals and first\-call pickups from hospitals, residences, nursing facilities, hospice locations, and other authorized locations
* Transport decedents between funeral homes, mortuaries, crematories, and cemeteries as needed
* Ensure proper identification and documentation during all transports
* Operate company vehicles professionally and safely
* Assist with unloading, intake, and proper placement upon arrival
* Maintain cleanliness and readiness of transport vehicles and equipment
3\. Service Coordination \& Funeral Support
* Assist in coordinating funeral, memorial, and visitation services
* Confirm service details including date, time, location, clergy, cemetery, and special family requests
* Communicate with funeral directors, vendors, clergy, and cemetery staff as directed
* Prepare and print funeral programs, prayer cards, memorial folders, sign\-in sheets, and required service documents
* Ensure all printed materials are accurate and approved prior to services
* Prepare chapel and visitation areas for services
* Assist with setup of flowers, displays, audiovisual equipment, and memorial items
* Work funeral services in a professional and respectful manner
* Support funeral directors during visitations, services, and graveside ceremonies
**Qualifications**
* Willingness to learn and be trained in all aspects of decedent care and service coordination
* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
* Ability to lift and move decedents with assistance and proper equipment
* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
* Organized and able to multitask in fast\-paced environments
* Professional demeanor and compassionate presence
* Prior funeral, mortuary, healthcare, or customer service experience is a plus but not required
Job Types: Full\-time, Part\-time, Contract
Pay: $14\.00 \- $20\.00 per hour
