**CITY OF MARLBOROUGH** **DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS** **General Foreman \-** Forestry, Parks \& Cemetery Division The City of Marlborough’s Department of Public Works is seeking a full\-time (40 hours per week) **General Foreman** for the Forestry, Parks \& Cemetery Division, located at 135 Neil Street in Marlborough, MA. This is an exempt position within the DPW Engineers, Local 272 bargaining unit, offering a bi\-weekly starting salary of $4,307\.69\. TThis is a union position offering competitive wages, and comprehensive municipal benefits, including health and dental insurance, paid time off, holidays, pension, and other union benefits. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all operations involving the maintenance and care of public lands, municipal grounds, recreation areas, the City’s public shade trees, and municipal cemetery grounds, and may assist in the provision of personnel or maintenance work across other divisions and functional areas of the DPW. Any equivalent combination of the below\-listed education, training, certification, and experience, is qualifying:  High School diploma or equivalent; · 3 to 5 years of related experience; Valid driver’s license;· Must obtain Massachusetts Qualified Tree Warden certification within 12 months of appointment to remain in position; · OSHA 30 Hour certification, to be completed within 12 months. Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:· Certified arborist license; Pesticide applicator license; Certified in sports turf management. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the safe and effective operation of public works equipment, machinery, vehicles, hand and power tools; department safety practices regarding the use of department vehicles and equipment; municipal geography and public way trees; cemetery, forestry, parks, and open space maintenance; snow and ice control techniques; pesticide application and viable alternatives to its use; Excellent management and leadership skills. Public relations and time management skills. Skills in developing policies and procedures in order to accomplish goals; Ability to read and understand technical documents and reports; communicate effectively and deal professionally with others; plan, assign, and supervise the work of division personnel; establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with employees, municipal officials, the public, and others; prepare and administer division budgets and to prepare management reports; Proficient in use of computer programs, including word processing and spreadsheet applications as well as financial management software; and the use of job\-related tools, materials, supplies and equipment necessary for the position’s essential tasks; Demonstrates ability to lead teams in the maintenance \& enhancement of public parks, urban forestry and cemetery grounds with strong commitment to public safety, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
