Funeral Director Assistant

Iles Funeral Homes is seeking dependable, compassionate individuals to join our team as **Funeral Director Assistants** (FDAs). This is a meaningful, hands-on position supporting Funeral Directors and helping families throughout the funeral service process.

As a Funeral Director Assistant, you will help prepare for and carry out funeral services while providing a warm, professional presence to families and guests. In many situations, you may be one of the primary representatives of Iles Funeral Homes that a family or member of the public encounters.

What You'll Do

* Assist Funeral Directors with preparation and execution of visitations, funeral services, graveside services, and receptions.
* Set up and clean chapels, visitation rooms, reception areas, and other spaces for services.
* Greet and assist families, guests, clergy, musicians, cemetery personnel, and other service providers.
* Assist with caskets, urns, flowers, memorial items, and other service-related equipment.
* Help with transportation of the deceased and funeral service equipment between funeral homes, churches, cemeteries, and other locations.
* Assist with funeral processions, including escorting families and pallbearers.
* Provide general administrative and customer service support as needed.
* Handle personal belongings, donations, sympathy cards, and other items with care and discretion.
* Maintain a professional, compassionate, and respectful demeanor in all interactions.

**This Is a Hands-On, Physical PART-TIME Position**

Funeral Director Assistants spend a significant amount of time on their feet and moving throughout the day. **This position is not a primarily seated or office-based job.**

The work may include:

* Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
* Walking and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
* Walking on grass, gravel, uneven ground, stairs, and other uneven surfaces.
* Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing stairs.
* Loading, unloading, pushing, pulling, carrying, and positioning funeral equipment and merchandise.
* Assisting with the respectful movement and transportation of deceased individuals.
* Lifting and moving items weighing up to **75 pounds independently**, with heavier items moved with assistance.
* Safely entering, exiting, parking, and maneuvering funeral home vehicles, vans, and coaches.

Physical tasks are always performed with appropriate training, equipment, and assistance when needed.

* High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
* Previous customer service, hospitality, healthcare, funeral service, or similar experience is helpful but not required.
* **Valid driver's license and a safe driving record required.**
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion.

Schedule & Availability

This position requires **consistent weekly availability**, particularly during our busier seasons. Shifts can be 4+ hours depending on the needs of the day. Applicants should be **available to work at least 3–4 days per week**, with availability that includes a combination of:

* Daytime hours
* Evening hours
* Weekends

Funeral services and family needs do not always follow a traditional Monday–Friday schedule, so **flexibility is an essential part of this position**. Schedules may vary from week to week based on the needs of the families we serve.
