Grounds Maintenance Worker

**Position Overview** We are seeking a dependable and respectful Cemetery Groundskeeper to join our team. This role involves maintaining cemetery grounds, assisting with burial preparations, and operating heavy equipment—including a backhoe—in a safe and professional manner. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, physically capable, and committed to preserving the dignity and appearance of the cemetery grounds. **Key Responsibilities** * **Operate a backhoe** to open and close graves safely and accurately. * Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping, debris removal, and snow removal as needed. * Set and align headstones, markers, and burial vaults. * Assist with funeral setup, tent installation, chairs, and site preparation. * Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on groundskeeping equipment. * Ensure all burial sites meet cemetery standards for depth, alignment, and safety. * Maintain clean and orderly storage areas and workspaces. * Follow all safety guidelines and local/state regulations. * Provide respectful customer service when interacting with families or funeral staff. **Qualifications** * Experience operating a **backhoe or similar heavy equipment** is preferred. * Prior groundskeeping, landscaping, or cemetery experience preferred. * Ability to lift 50\+ pounds, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform physical labor daily. * Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. * Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain a respectful demeanor at all times. * Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. **Work Environment** * Outdoor environment with exposure to varying weather conditions. * Moderate to heavy physical activity. * Professional and respectful atmosphere due to the sensitive nature of cemetery operations. **Compensation \& Benefits** * Competitive hourly wage based on experience. * Benefits package may include , paid time off, and paid holidays. * Training and certification opportunities provided. ackhoe experience is a plus.
