Hospice Volunteer
Job Description
* **Companionship and Emotional Support:** Offer a comforting presence, listen to patients and families, and provide emotional support during challenging times.
* **Assisting with Activities:** Engage in hobbies, read to patients, play music, or help them with creative expression like journaling or drawing.
* **Respite Care:** Give family caregivers a break by sitting with the patient, allowing them to run errands, attend appointments, or rest.
* **Light Practical Help:** Assist with light household tasks, run errands, or help with pet care, but do not provide hands-on personal care like bathing unless specifically trained.
* **Communication:** Serve as a link between the patient/family and the hospice team, reporting any changes or concerns to the hospice case manager.
* **Fulfilling Last Wishes:** Help patients and their families with various aspects of the end-of-life process, including fulfilling final wishes.
Indirect Support
* **Community Engagement:** Participate in health fairs and community events to advocate for hospice and raise awareness.
* **Bereavement Support:** Offer support to grieving families after a patient's death, with additional training provided for this role.
* **Direct Office/Admin Support:** Help with administrative tasks like answering phones, data entry, mailings, and general office work.
* **Fundraising:** Assist with fundraising activities and events to support the hospice organization.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
* **Mandatory Training:** Volunteers receive training on hospice care and specific roles.
* **Confidentiality:** Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
* **Professional Conduct:** Adhere to hospice policies and codes of conduct.
* **Background Checks:** Undergo a criminal background check.
* **Reliability:** Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in their commitments.
* **Teamwork:** Work as part of the hospice team and maintain open communication.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $0.01 - $0.02 per hour
