IT Infrastructure Specialist
Job Description
**Company Overview**
Mt. Elliott Cemetery Association is dedicated to serving the Greater Detroit community through its network of Catholic and Christian cemeteries. With a longstanding commitment to compassionate service, the organization plays a vital role in providing respectful interment solutions for families across the region.
**IT Infrastructure Specialist**
**About the Position**
We are seeking an **IT Infrastructure Specialist** to work closely with our Lead Engineer/Architect in supporting, maintaining, and developing our technology infrastructure while providing technical support to internal users.
This is a **hands-on, diverse IT position** involving servers, workstations, networking, storage, virtualization, security, business applications, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, and enjoys solving problems and learning new technologies.
You do not need to know every technology in our environment on day one. We value **strong troubleshooting skills, technical curiosity, initiative, and the ability to learn** just as much as specific product experience. Our Lead Engineer/Architect will provide guidance, training, and mentorship as you grow.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Provide technical support to internal users, including support for our primary cloud-based cemetery management software.
* Troubleshoot hardware, operating systems, applications, networking, virtualization, and infrastructure issues.
* Support and maintain **Windows servers, workstations, network infrastructure, storage, and virtual environments**.
* Assist with our **VMware environment and ongoing transition to Proxmox**.
* Support Microsoft technologies, including **Windows Server and Active Directory**.
* Assist with network infrastructure including **switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP**.
* Assist with server deployments, upgrades, migrations, backups, maintenance, and disaster recovery.
* Support web, email, and database servers, including **Exchange and Microsoft SQL**.
* Monitor systems, identify potential issues, and help improve system reliability, security, and availability.
* Troubleshoot application issues and determine whether the underlying problem is related to the application, user configuration, operating system, network, or infrastructure.
* Document systems, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting solutions.
* Work with the Lead Engineer/Architect on infrastructure projects, improvements, and technology initiatives.
* Learn new technologies and progressively take on greater responsibility.
**What We're Looking For**
We are looking for someone who is:
* **A self-starter** who takes initiative and can work independently.
* A strong **problem solver and troubleshooter** who enjoys figuring out why something isn't working.
* Curious and willing to learn technologies and systems that may be unfamiliar.
* Comfortable working across multiple areas of IT rather than being limited to one specialty.
* Able to take ownership of problems and follow them through to resolution.
* Organized and understands the importance of documentation and reliable processes.
* A strong communicator who can explain technical issues clearly and patiently to non-technical users.
* Professional, approachable, and committed to providing excellent internal customer service.
**Technical Experience**
Experience with some or all of the following is valuable:
* Windows Server and Active Directory
* VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, or similar virtualization platforms
* Server and infrastructure administration
* Network administration and TCP/IP
* DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, and firewalls
* SAN and storage systems
* Backup and disaster recovery
* Web, email, and database servers
* Microsoft SQL
* Windows desktop support
* Network and system security
**Cisco networking experience is a plus, but not required.**
Experience with specific products is less important than understanding the underlying technology and demonstrating the ability to learn new platforms.
**Our IT Environment**
Our infrastructure has a significant focus on **virtualized servers, desktops, storage, and networking**. We currently utilize VMware and are actively transitioning portions of our environment to Proxmox.
This position provides an opportunity to work directly with our Lead Engineer/Architect and gain experience in **infrastructure design, virtualization, networking, storage, security, systems administration, and IT engineering**.
**Customer Support**
Supporting our internal users is an important part of this position. Our employees rely heavily on our cloud-based business applications, and the IT Infrastructure Specialist will spend significant time answering questions, troubleshooting problems, identifying the source of issues, and helping users get back to work.
For this reason, **technical knowledge must be accompanied by patience, professionalism, communication skills, and a customer-service mindset.**
**Education & Experience**
A degree or formal IT certification is helpful, but **not necessarily required**.
We will consider professional experience, hands-on technical experience, certifications, technical projects, homelab experience, or demonstrated ability to learn and troubleshoot complex systems.
We are more interested in **how you think, troubleshoot, learn, and solve problems** than whether you already know every technology in our environment.
**What Success Looks Like**
A successful IT Infrastructure Specialist will become someone we can rely on to:
* Investigate and resolve problems independently.
* Identify underlying causes rather than simply treating symptoms.
* Provide knowledgeable and professional support to our users.
* Maintain and continually improve our IT infrastructure.
* Take ownership of projects and assigned responsibilities.
* Learn new technologies and adapt as our environment evolves.
* Continue developing into a well-rounded infrastructure and systems professional.
**If You Enjoy Solving Problems, We Want to Hear From You**
If you are someone who enjoys learning, solving problems, understanding how technology works, and continually expanding your technical skills, this position offers an opportunity to **grow beyond traditional help-desk or desktop support and develop broad infrastructure and systems engineering experience.**
We would like to hear from you.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
Benefits:
* 401(k)
* 401(k) matching

* Health insurance
* Health savings account
* Life insurance
