**About Minnesota Cremation Services**
Minnesota Cremation Services is a local, woman-owned and operated cremation provider serving families throughout the Twin Cities, Central Minnesota, and surrounding communities.
We believe cremation care can be simple without ever feeling impersonal.
Our team is built around compassion, clear communication, professionalism, flexibility, and genuine care for the families we serve.
We answer the phone.
We explain things clearly.
We support families without pressure.
We help each other.
And we never forget that every person who comes into our care is someone’s loved one.
We are looking for a Licensed Funeral Director who shares those values and wants a role that combines family care, case management, teamwork, and hands-on transfer care.
**About the Role**
This is a full-time Licensed Funeral Director position with a schedule that combines office-based Funeral Director responsibilities during the week with home-based transfer coverage on the weekend.
Wednesday through Friday, you will work from our Rockford location as part of our Funeral Director and care team.
You will work directly with families, manage cases, answer phones, complete arrangements, prepare documentation, coordinate with care partners, and help make sure families feel supported throughout the cremation process.
Transfers are also an important part of this role.
Our Funeral Directors are not disconnected from the physical care of the people families entrust to us.
You may respond to a private home, nursing facility, hospice, hospital, Medical Examiner office, or another location to help bring someone safely and respectfully into our care.
Saturday and Sunday are structured differently.
Those shifts are remote based. You remain at remote (within an hour of Rockford, MN) unless you are needed for a transfer or another care-related need.
This gives you a schedule with both structure and flexibility while still allowing you to be directly involved in the work that matters most.
Schedule
**Wednesday-Friday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM | In Office**
**Saturday-Sunday: 3:00 PM–7:00 AM | Home-Based Transfer Coverage**
Wednesday–Friday
During your office days, you will work alongside our team in Rockford.
Your responsibilities may include:
* Meeting with families
* Completing cremation arrangements
* Answering incoming calls
* Managing active cases
* Preparing and filing death certificates
* Obtaining required permits and authorizations
* Communicating with hospices, nursing facilities, hospitals, physicians, and Medical Examiner offices
* Helping families with death certificates, urns, obituaries, and other needs
* Completing documentation
* Coordinating with our crematory and care team
* Maintaining accurate identification and chain of custody
* Helping with transfers when needed
* Supporting other members of the team
* Helping make sure families receive timely communication throughout the process
Some days may be focused heavily on arrangements and case management.
Other days may involve more phone calls, transfers, coordination, or helping wherever the team needs you.
We like people who are comfortable with that variety.
Saturday & Sunday
Saturday and Sunday are home-based coverage shifts from **3:00 PM–7:00 AM**.
You do not need to sit at our facility waiting for something to happen.
You remain at home and available during your scheduled hours.
Our regular transfer team provides primary coverage. Your role is to provide additional transfer capacity when more than one family needs us at the same time or when another team member needs assistance.
Some shifts may be completely quiet.
Other shifts may include one transfer.
And sometimes several calls may come in close together.
When you are needed, you will respond into the field and help bring someone safely and respectfully into our care.
**Transfer Care**
Transfer care is an important part of this position.
You may respond to:
* Private residences
* Nursing homes
* Assisted living communities
* Hospice facilities
* Hospitals
* Medical Examiner offices
* Other care locations throughout our service area
Depending on the circumstances, you may complete a transfer independently or work alongside another member of our care team.
You will be responsible for:
* Safely and respectfully bringing deceased individuals into our care
* Meeting families with compassion and professionalism
* Explaining what is happening when appropriate
* Maintaining accurate identification
* Following chain-of-custody procedures
* Completing transfer documentation
* Communicating with the Funeral Director and care team
* Assessing the environment and determining the safest approach
* Navigating stairs, tight spaces, difficult entrances, snow, ice, and other challenging conditions
* Using transfer equipment safely
* Keeping vehicles and equipment clean, stocked, and ready
We believe the way someone comes into our care matters.
The family may remember that interaction for the rest of their lives.
We want them to feel that their loved one was treated with dignity, patience, and care from the very beginning.
**Family Care**
A large part of being a Funeral Director with us is helping families understand what comes next.
You may be speaking with someone minutes after a death has occurred.
You may be helping someone who has never planned a cremation before.
You may be answering questions about paperwork, timing, death certificates, cremation authorization, urns, or what happens next.
We want families to feel like they are speaking with a real person who genuinely cares.
Someone who listens.
Someone who explains things clearly.
Someone who can make a difficult process feel a little more manageable.
What This Role Is Like
This role has variety.
You will have three consistent days working with your team in the office.
You will have two home-based shifts where you have more flexibility but still carry meaningful responsibility.
There may be quiet periods.
There may be busy periods.
There may be days when everything goes exactly as planned.
There may be days when several things happen at once.
That is funeral service.
We want someone who can stay calm, communicate well, take ownership, and keep the family experience at the center of what they are doing.
**Training & Onboarding**
Your first couple of weeks will primarily be in person at our Rockford location.
You will spend time:
* Listening to incoming calls
* Learning our phone systems
* Learning our case management systems
* Learning our documentation and internal processes
* Completing arrangements alongside our team
* Going on transfers with experienced team members
* Learning our transfer equipment and procedures
* Learning our identification and chain-of-custody standards
* Learning how our crematory and care team operate
* Meeting the people you will work with
* Learning how we communicate with families and care partners
Once you are comfortable with our systems and expectations, you will transition into the regular schedule.
**Who We Are Looking For**
We are looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable, professional, and comfortable taking responsibility.
You should enjoy working with families.
You should be able to communicate clearly and calmly.
You should be comfortable working independently.
You should be comfortable going into the field.
You should be willing to help with transfers.
You should be able to look at a situation, think through what needs to happen, and make a good decision.
And you should care about doing things the right way even when nobody is standing over your shoulder.
**Our Culture**
We are proud to be a woman-owned and operated Minnesota company.
We believe people do their best work when they are trusted, supported, and treated like professionals.
We value kindness, accountability, communication, flexibility, teamwork, and ownership.
If something needs attention, we help.
If a family has a question, we answer it.
If a teammate needs support, we step in.
We do not want people who simply clock in and wait to be told what to do.
We want people who care about the work, care about the families, and care about the team around them.
At the same time, we believe good people deserve flexibility and trust.
That is why this role includes home-based weekend coverage.
We care much more about whether the work is being done well than whether someone is unnecessarily sitting in an office waiting for something to happen.

* Valid driver’s license

* Ability to successfully pass a background check
* Ability to work Wednesday through Sunday on the listed schedule
