Mortuary Removal Specialist

J**ob Summary** Mortuary Removal Specialist is responsible for the professional and respectful removal and transportation of deceased individuals from hospitals, residences, nursing homes, accident scenes, and medical examiner offices to funeral homes, morgues, or other designated facilities. The specialist must maintain dignity, discretion, and professionalism while working with families, medical staff, and law enforcement. **Key Responsibilities:** Respond to removal calls from funeral homes, hospitals, nursing homes, or medical examiners. Safely transfer the deceased (human remains) from the place of death to a removal cot or stretcher. Place remains into a body pouch or appropriate covering following proper procedures. Transport the deceased to the designated funeral home, morgue, or medical examiner’s office. Maintain proper chain\-of\-custody documentation and transport logs. Use proper lifting techniques and removal equipment to ensure safety. Treat the deceased and families with respect, compassion, and dignity at all times. Clean and disinfect vehicles, stretchers, and equipment after each transport. Maintain the company vehicle and ensure it is clean, fueled, and ready for service. Follow all local, state, and health regulations regarding the handling of human remains. **Qualifications:** High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass a background check and drug screening. Ability to lift and move 100–300 pounds with assistance and equipment.Professional appearance and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work on\-call, nights, weekends, and holidays. Skills and Abilities: Professional and compassionate demeanor. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to remain calm in sensitive situations. Good physical condition and stamina. Ability to follow safety and infection\-control procedures. **Work Environment:** Hospitals, private residences, nursing homes, medical examiner or coroner facilities, and funeral homes. Work may involve evening, overnight, weekend, and on\-call shifts. **Physical Requirements**: Frequent lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling. Ability to maneuver stretchers and removal equipment.
