Carewell Cremations and Natural Burial is a family-owned, women-owned funeral care provider serving Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. We are seeking a dependable, compassionate Part-Time Funeral Assistant to support our funeral directors with funeral services, viewings, celebrations of life, and burials.

This is a great opportunity for a retired person or someone seeking meaningful part-time work. **Hours vary from week to week depending on the number and timing of services**, so availability to accommodate changing service schedules is important.

Responsibilities

* Assist funeral directors with funeral services, viewings, celebrations of life, and graveside burials.
* Help set up and clean up service spaces, including arranging chairs, tables, flowers, photographs, guestbooks, and programs.
* Prepare vehicles for services by cleaning the interior and exterior, checking fuel levels, and loading supplies and equipment.
* Drive company vehicles to churches, cemeteries, and other service locations as assigned.
* Transport and unload flowers, service materials, and equipment.
* Welcome families and guests, provide directions, and assist with seating.
* Assist with the safe movement and placement of caskets using appropriate equipment and team support.
* Support funeral directors with service logistics and cemetery coordination.
* Maintain a professional appearance and treat families, guests, and the deceased with dignity and respect.

Qualifications

* **Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable for operating company vehicles.**
* Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working a schedule that changes weekly.
* Compassionate and professional when interacting with grieving families.
* Able to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and pay close attention to details.
* Able to stand and walk during services and safely assist with moving supplies, equipment, and caskets using team support.
* Willing to work outdoors at cemeteries in varying weather conditions.
* Willing to wear professional attire appropriate for funeral services.
* Previous funeral service, hospitality, or customer service experience is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided.
