**Pet Loss Support Staff**
Location: Columbia, SC (Cayce)
Columbia Pet Cremation Center
**Position Overview**
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Pet Crematory Technician to join our team. Responsibilities include assisting clients during pet intake, handling pets with dignity, operating cremation equipment, maintaining accurate records, preparing ashes for return, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Candidates should be detail\-oriented, physically capable of lifting up to 100 pounds, and comfortable working in a sensitive environment. This position includes participation in an on\-call rotation for evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency service needs. Experience in veterinary, animal care, or crematory services is preferred but not required.
**Key Responsibilities**
Receive and document pets entering the crematory facility
Assist clients with memorial merchandise purchases
Verify identification tags, paperwork, and cremation instructions
Assist clients during the intake of pets with compassion, professionalism, and sensitivity
Explain cremation options, memorial products, and required paperwork to pet owners as
needed
Safely transport and handle animals of various sizes
Operate cremation equipment according to safety and environmental regulations
Maintain accurate tracking records throughout the cremation process
Prepare ashes for return to families or veterinary clinics
Clean and maintain cremation chambers, equipment, and work areas
Follow OSHA, local health, and environmental compliance standards
Coordinate pickup and delivery services with veterinary offices
Monitor fuel levels, machine performance, and maintenance schedules
Report on equipment issues or operational concerns to management
Participate in an on\-call rotation for after\-hours, weekend, holiday, or emergency
removals and cremation services as needed
Serve as back up to front office.
**Required Qualifications**
High school diploma or GED preferred
Ability to lift 50–100 pounds safely
Comfortable working in a physically and emotionally sensitive environment
Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on\-call
shifts
Valid driver’s license may be required
Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety protocols
**Preferred Skills**
Experience in animal care, veterinary services, funeral services, or crematory operations
Mechanical aptitude and equipment operation experience
Compassionate communication and customer service skills
Attention to detail and chain\-of\-custody accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
**Working Conditions**
Exposure to heat, odors, and industrial equipment
Standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive movement throughout shifts
Regular interaction with grieving families and pet owners
Indoor industrial work environment
Availability for after\-hours or emergency call\-outs
**Schedule**
* Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
