TOWN OF CHELMSFORD – POSITION DESCRIPTION *SEASONAL LABORER CEMETERY DEPARTMENT* *February 24, 2026* Summary: This entry level, temporary position, with an approximate ......START DATE is March 30, 2026, End date of December 30 or when snow prevents outside operations. This job involves the operation of department equipment and cemetery grounds maintenance duties including but not limited to the following principal duties. Equipment Used (as applicable, but not limited to): Lawn tractors, manual and power lawn mowers, grass trimmers, leaf blowers, various hand and garden tools and funeral preparation equipment. Principal Duties: 1\. Operation of the department’s equipment for grounds maintenance and improvement, and other related assignments. 2\. Prepare and finish landscaping graves as required. Assists other co\-workers as needed. 3\. General grounds maintenance duties including but not limited to grass mowing and trimming, raking, shoveling, shrub trimming, tree pruning, sweeping, and painting. 4\. Leaf removal operations as needed. 5\. Prepare lots and setting up equipment for funeral services. 6\. Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and flower gardens. 7\. Perform basic maintenance on department vehicles and equipment. The above are typical tasks regularly performed, but additional related tasks of equivalent Skills and responsibilities are performed as service requirements change. Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 100 pounds and to perform extensive manual labor tasks, be able to operate power grounds maintenance equipment, and use various hand tools. Position frequently requires work outdoors. Exposure all types of weather conditions apply. Special Notes: Applicants for this position must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Driver's License and have a safe driving record.
