Job Description
**Duties**
* Schedule burials and coordinate with funeral homes and contractors.
* Meet with families and provide information on cemetery services and lot availability.
* Maintain burial records and cemetery maps.
* Locate and mark grave sites.
* Coordinate grave openings. (the City generally does not perform grave openings)
* Oversee backfilling, grading, and restoration of grave sites after burial.
* Perform general cemetery maintenance including debris removal, retaining wall upkeep, stone resetting/restoration, and repairs.
* Maintain grounds, signage, and overall appearance of cemetery property.
* Assist with other City grounds work as directed.
**Work Schedule:** As a general guide, the schedule for this position is:
* Two (2\) days per week in the cemetery office.
* Three (3\) days per week performing general grounds upkeep.
**Requirements**
* High school diploma or GED.
* Valid Missouri driver’s license.
* At least one (1\) year of experience as a Sexton or equivalent relevant experience.
* Ability to lift 50–100 pounds, with or without accommodation.
* Exceptional recordkeeping skills.
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
* Ability to interact professionally with the public in sensitive situations.
**Preferred:**
* Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mortuary Science.
**Compensation:** Upon successful completion of a probationary period:
* $18\.00 per hour
* Salary negotiable with a degree in Mortuary Science (starting at approximately $39,000\+)
