Job Description

Posting Details Interviews to be conducted within two weeks after the job posting has ended. Why does the job exist? This position does grounds work and facility maintenance for the Taos State Veteran's Cemetery. This position prepares the grave sites, assist with internments, and backfills grave sites. This position will assist with the installation of headstones and markers, order markers and headstones. How does it get done? This position requires knowledge of cemetery protocols, hand tools, equipment and vehicles. Grounds work will require the use of department vehicles, grounds tools (weed whacker, mowers, hand tools, back\-pack and hand\-held blowers). Backhoe and trenching equipment will be used to prepare grave sites. This position will be required to use equipment to fulfill the job duties. Who are the customers? The Taos State Veterans Cemetery is the final resting place for US Veterans and their spouses. This state cemetery serves the rural communities of Northern New Mexico. Minimum Qualification High School diploma or equivalent and one (1\) year of experience in cemetery interment, construction, heavy and mid\-size construction equipment operations, and/or landscape maintenance/groundskeeping. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1\) year may substitute for the required experience. Must complete training in compliance with the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) guidelines as soon as practicable after hire. Must complete training to become Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Ten (10\) certified within one (1\) year of hire. Employment Requirements This position requires exterior work in all types of weather. Employee is required to maintain grounds and should be able to lift fifty (50\) pounds, climb, crawl, pull, work with shovels, rakes, hand tools, small engine equipment and travel will be required in both in\-state and out\-of\-state for training. Working Conditions Work is performed in an outdoor setting. Use of ground tampers, compactor, and equipment for opening and closing crypts and lowering caskets. In addition, office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Supplemental Information Do you know what Total Compensation is?
